In between work and games from the list of desires, I sincerely enjoy Elden Ring . I wanted to join the project for a long time Fromsoftware, really freezed its aura. For me, the game is delight. Mixing dark and high fantasy, unhurried pace of passage, majestic landscapes and at the same time a melancholy and epic soundtrack captivated me and did not want to release me in any way. With interruptions on the ass of the bosses, I am imbued with each location and admire the design of every model. I am surprised how the game organically combines a million references to everything in the world and pretends to be a unique product. Cross "Berserk" and Christianity with the works of Tolkien and Martin – easy. For me, as a connoisseur of all kinds of references and obstacles, this is a real treasure. This blog is an essay in which I want to tell you about why Miyazaki is the main thief in the game industry and references standing behind Elden Ring.
Note: The blog will have a large number of names of game characters and heroes of works. So that there is no misunderstanding, I made the descriptions of the main in the footnote. Ah, well Spoilers, Gentlemen. If you are afraid to find out one of the main tweaks of the game, or are you just going to play Elden Ring, then be careful.
In the program:
The influence of Hayao Miyazaki
I would like to start with obvious visual parallels that were licked from various works of culture. And only then I will go to the ideas and topics that permeate the last work of Hidezaki (Hidetaka Miyazaki).
Perhaps the funny thing is that Hideaki borrowed the designs from his namesake – Hayao Miyazaki, so to speak: "H. Miyazaki Was Inspired by H. Miyazaki "
Princess Mononoka, 1997

"Naisal from the Valley https://nokyccasinos.org.uk/review/lucki-casino/ of the Winds", 1984

An interesting parallel can be drawn between the main characters of the works of two famous Japanese authors. That in the gloomy worlds of Hidestaki are protagonists lost and sometimes rebellious heroes who are doomed to lonely wandering around hostile lands, so Hayao’s main characters are most often outsiders who were forced to leave their home in search of answers or new life. For example, the main character "Walking castle" Sophie, turned into an old woman and is forced to leave her house. She is looking for a way to remove a curse and meets many characters, each of which, in his own way, is lonely and seeks its place in the world. And in "Princess Mononoka": The main character, Asitaka, was expelled from his native tribe and sets off on a single journey to find a curse from a curse. On the way, he meets the same princess. Less lonely, but the same unleasable.
It should be noted the importance of female characters in the works of the Japanese. The master of the watercolor drawing of a woman has strong heroines who are able to solve their problems on their own, and at the same time help the rest. And Hideaki’s enthusiasm for women is more like fetishism. In each of his game there should be a barefoot or blind woman, and sometimes all at once. You can accuse the latter of objectivism, because most often such heroines played the role of the keepers of temples or bonfires. But there are more than enough strong female characters in cruel worlds. Speaking about Elden Ring, then remember the misery, one of the optional bosses of the game, which was recognized by the players as one of the most formidable opponents.
Fromsoftware Greatly combines romanticized European history with romanticized Japanese history and folklore. Along with this, the studio GHIBLI also does not shy about filming works of European authors. Take the same miracle of steampunk – "Walking castle", Which is the adaptation of Roman Diana Jones (Diana Wynne Jones).
But not only “Miyazaks” are one references in Elden Ring. There is another Japanese who, whose developers of the Souls series were actively borrowed by images and topics.
The influence of the berserker
It is because of Berserka I thirsty to play in Elden Ring. After reading the last head of the manga at the moment, I remained under the impression. I wanted to catch a similar mood from something else. And the new Hideiy game was a number one guideline for me.
I was not mistaken.
If you are at least a little familiar with the great manga of the now deceased Cantaro Miura), then even if you play with one eye with a minimum brightness of the screen, you will still find a dozen references to "Berserker". Miyazaki never hid Hideytaki and proudly declared that he was nourishing strong love in a gloomy epos. The games of the Japanese master of manga images can go almost unchanged. Yes, and all fans know that every new game of the master is a fan fiction on "Berserk ". The famous and obvious sword of the protagonist manga, Gats, the dragon killer who appears in every “Souls” (and Elden Ring) since 2009. And the helmet of the "prisoner", which is very reminiscent of the helmet of Griffith . And Berserker armor, which is very similar to Blieda Blood Half . And the hills of swords, which are very similar to the cemetery of the swords, which Ricret made in the manga, in memory of the fallen comrades.
All these parallels are obvious and lie on the surface. I will hide these under the spoiler. And I will dwell on inconspicuous topics and halftones.
Trolls in the game and in manga
Radan, similar simultaneously to the Dodda of the Immortal and the King of Heiserich.
Farnese helmet and a helmet
Crystal tears from manga and game
Griffith and Mikkela rebirth
Griffith-Concluded and class of the same name in Elden Ring
Most of all I like the analogy of the bonfires of a military camp and “bonfires” in “Souls”. In the warmest episode of the “Golden Age” arch, gats and helmet are observed on top of a military camp and reflect on stake. They are the embodiment of the dream and goals of each of the participants. Near the fire, travelers feel at home.
This romantic statement goes well with the places of grace in Elden Ring. The same warm island of the light in which the player can relax and relax
It is impossible to say accurately whether the work of Mangaki of the gamepa -designer has inspired the gloomy tone of his games, but we can say with confidence that how "Berserk", So Miyazaki games immerse players and readers into worlds, where beauty and horror exist next to each other. Dark forests, destroyed cities and devastated battlefields create a feeling of constant tension and loss. The main characters of both stories often face severe trials, moving from hope to despair. IN "Berserker" Gats fights with his past and demons who pursue him, while the characters of the Miyazaki games are often looking for their fate in a world that seems indifferent to their suffering.
At the same time, if the hero of the games manages to achieve something, then do not expect to meet surprise in the faces of the few NPCs. Each of them will justify the hero’s act by prophecy, prediction, legend, fate, fingers and something else. And so is repeated from the game to the game. No one is surprised by the fact that all the plots of Miyazaki follow the same plot, changing only the names.
We can say that games use the philosophy of determinism and fatalism. The fate and actions of all heroes are intertwined, and the outcome has long been known. We are not free to choose our path, because it is not our. Everyone has already decided for us.
“What runs the fate of mankind in this world? Some kind of invisible creature or law, like the hand of the Lord soaring over the world? At least it is true that a person is not powerful even over his will."
And this is a quote known to everyone who watched anime on Berserk.
IN "Berserker" There is a concept of the idea of evil – a divine being, which, in fact, controls the fate of mankind. It creates streams of causality that direct events in a certain direction.
The gloomy worlds of the Japanese corrupt those who live in them. These are worlds of extremes, if faith, then fanatical, if sins, then to disgust, if cleanliness, then dazzling. It is worth a character to succumb to temptation, as he is perverted both externally and internally.
The grotesque description of sins is not uncommon in world culture, especially when it comes to the Middle Ages. And if you consider "Berserk" Close, it will open that it is a melting boiler of classic images: the infernal gustav Dore (gustave doré), Trees of Caspar David Friedrich (Caspar David Friedrich) and even the bestialiary of demons directly from the work of Bosch. It is with the help of the paintings of Jerome Bosch that one can understand and explain the rich world Elden Ring.
