Raw Material for preparation of clean iron
Description
The production of pig iron took place on 5 electro reduction furnaces for melting iron ore from the company Elkem Norway, which had their own role and specificity that is very useful in the circular economy process. Namely, the process of production of pig iron in one furnace, as an example, took place in the following way:
-One electric furnace makes 6 openings and produces 180 tons of pig iron and has a waste slag of 360 tons per day which is granulated with water of 0-4 mm. The ratio iron: slag is usually 1:2 and depends on the type of iron ore that is melted in the electric reduction furnace. The chemical composition of the iron slag that is the subject of this project has the following average chemical composition:
Fe2O3 CaO MgO SiO2 Al2O3 Fe total
1,3% 35,6% 8,1% 34,7% 12,4% 5%
The production of silicomanganese takes place on 2 electric furnaces from the company ELKEM Norway, which have their own role and specificity that is very useful in the circular economy process.
Silico-manganese slag has the same costs as iron slag but it does not have a high enough price like the slag produced from white pig iron because cement companies do not practice to buy it and use it in the cement production process because it contains a lot of manganese which has a harmful effect on cement as a product. However, silicomanganese slag with its chemical composition has its own application and is used in the production of silicomanganese.
The chemical composition of silicon manganese slag is as follows:
CaO MgO SiO2 MnO Fe Mn total
14-24% 1,65-3,55% 41-48% 15,5-24% 0,57-0,66% 12-18,6%
If the company for the production of ferroalloys has an agglomeration, which is the case with R.Z Topilnica AD-Skopje, it can return the silicon-manganese slag to the smelting process in an electric reduction furnace in the form of a poorer sinter ore with 25% of manganese, which is not to be neglected because silicon-manganese ore is expensive, i.e. it amounts to 180-250 euros/1 mt. If the costs for ship and rail transport are added, the silico-manganese ore will turn out to be an even more expensive raw material for the production of silico-manganese. In this way, also in this way, ferroalloyers get rid of huge silicomanganese slag landfills, apply the circular economy process.
We will explain the process of granulation of iron slag, silicomanganese slag and slag of other metals if the technological procedure is carried out correctly. In this way, the environment will be protected first, the process of circular economy will be implemented, and the financial situation of the company will be improved.
After all, that's why sintering plants were invented, which should collect all the small fractions of ores, slag, coke and other waste raw materials.
Our service that we will offer to metallurgical companies will amount to 5 euros/1 mt for iron slag and 3 euros/1 mt for silicomanganese slag.
The future for our business and our industry with the process of slag granulation is becoming more and more actual and it is no longer thought that ferrous metallurgy and the production of ferroalloys does not pose a danger to the environment.

Sustainable Development Goals

9. Industry , innovation and infrastructure
The industrial (economic) and social problem that needs to be overcome and to use this business opportunity, which is not solved everywhere, consists in employment, environmental protection in order to introduce the circular economy process where there is an opportunity.
