GlasSmart

Description
Our idea revolves around inserting heat-sensitive sensors (referred to as "solar sensors") inside of windows and applying PDLC film over them in order to give them extra functionality, such as increasing or reducing opacity based on the time of day, changing color, or even having LED lights within the window frame. This would work due to the solar sensors absorbing the sunlight hitting the window during the day, effectively reducing costs in buying things such as curtains or blinds. We can either manufacture said windows or install them directly into someone's home. This idea is mostly marketed towards people in warm climates, where the sun shines constantly. A unique feature would be that since the solar sensors have wires hidden within the aluminum window frame, one could possibly connect the wires with their central powering system in order to save on electricity costs by utilizing the solar energy coming from the solar sensors. Some other possible features would be a mobile application in which the user can set a specific time for the windows to become opaque by themselves, or the user can manually adjust the opacity using a slider.

Sustainable Development Goals

13. Climate Action

The idea uses solar energy to function, which is a renewable source of energy. It also aims to slightly alleviate the costs of using traditional electricity.
