Description
FoodAllios is a social entrepreneurship initiative, fulfilling our ambition and vision to eliminate food waste. We do that by creating a web/mobile app, a platform where business owners in the food industry(restaurants,bakeries etc) will be able to sell their unsold products at the end of the day(certain timeslots) at a certain discount, reducing financial losses and providing customers/consumers the chance to buy products at a much lower price. At the same time, our platform will provide information on the food saved, CO2 emissions reduced and other metrics and will collaborate with partners in the data analytics and blockchain sectors so that these saved emissions can be converted in carbon credits or used as visualization tools to show the ESG strategy success of these businesses.
In the long-term, we aim at creating a machine learning tool, where, based on the unsold products and the profile of the consumer, it will be able to provide culinary propositions for certain recipes to the consumer.
Our idea meets the need of the businesses in the food industry to reduce their emissions and comply with the new regulations on food waste, among other waste resources. It also meets the need for young people to reduce their environmental footprint(as they are quite conscious) and also their spendings, given the financial crisis.
Our first market adopters shall be young people, preferably students, aged 18-30 y.o, living in large urban centers and being fully conscious of the harm food waste is doing to the environment(and to their pockets). From the businesses side, our first customers shall be university canteens and bakeries, followed by restaurants and supermarkets.
The main revenue generation mechanism will be the commission that we will be getting from every product sold. In addition, we will be having sponsorships to our website, platform and social media as a revenue stream. Finally, once our data analytics platforms are fully developed, we will be turning them into a service and hence into a revenue stream as well.
In terms of our team's dynamics, Dimitris Symeonidis has been exposed to similar ideas during his time in the Netherlands and wants to create an even greater initiative, based on the food & nutritional values of the Greek society. In addition, his technological background as an electrical & computer engineer with strong data analysis skills(as a policy analyst) make him an excellent tech lead. Nektarios Esxete is a business administration student and has great understanding in terms of business development & marketing skills. Vasiliki Thanou has been thoroughly working on social media strategies and is our social media lead. Maria Xenou has a unique research talent and is the person mainly in responsibility for conducting research, from the market itself to food waste and environment analytics.
Our unique selling points consist of:
- A complete team, covering all of the aspects of the problem, from the scientific/tech needs, to the business development, strategy, policy and even market research needs.
- A much better and more user-friendly platform than the existing alternatives
- Data Analytics tools to propose culinary choices/recipes to consumers to make food waste reduction a "tasty" challenge
- A network of partners in data analytics and blockchain technology, but also very well positioned in the student and young people group, which is our target group
- Plan to expand our action to conscious kitchens and similar activities

By offering food in much lower prices, we help people who are at a financially fragile situation to receive more food. If they were enjoying e.g 1 good meal within a spectrum of a week, this can change now with our much cheaper options.

12. Responsible Consumption and production

As our platform aims at providing data on the food saved and emissions saved, people and business owners will become more conscious of what they consume and produce and how it affects the environment and we hope that this will shift their behaviors

13. Climate Action

Our platform's end goal is to eventually reduce the emissions coming from a major emitter,such as food waste. Hitherto, this is a very characteristic example of climate action.
