Travel assistant

The idea behind a free and complete travel assistant app is quite simple. The user will be able to organize his whole journey, from the moment he steps out of his house until he returns back to it, all from one application on his phone, tablet, laptop or any other device. The vision of how it will work is that as soon as the traveler opens the app and enters his current location as well as the final destination, all of the available means of transport will be presented. Then the user can choose whichever combination of transportation suits his needs best. For example he will have the option of faster, cheaper or posher way to reach the destination. Moreover, the app will combine booking accommodation, recommending sightseeing, museums and other activities close to the traveler’s destination. What will make this application differentiate from any other is that after the user has finally arranged everything concerning his trip, all the information, bookings and tickets will be will be on display on a calendar. This means that the traveler will be getting notifications from the app about his trip, like when he should board a plane, the weather of the destination and other vital information. Last but not least, the camera of the phone could be used as an Augmented Reality map that shows signs on the street via the phone’s live feed. The app will even aid find the booked seat in a means of transport by guiding you there and pointing out.

In our opinion, this is a revolutionary way of organizing a journey as many individuals do not always find it easy, especially youngsters or inexperienced travelers. By creating a user friendly and intuitive interface, the travel assistant application is conducive to arranging a trip extremely easily and eliminating the risk of getting lost or missing a train for instance. A business idea like this is of course aimed at people of all ages from all around the world. Our vision is that everyone will be able to travel wherever they want while being presented with every possible way to do so at the best price available, all from just one application.

In order for this project to function, we need to have collaborations with the biggest sites and travel companies in the world. More specifically, the travel assistant app will combine information from already existing sites such as booking.com, skyscanner.com etc. for the user to book his accommodation and transportation and then put them all together in one place. That means that the main income of our business idea will come from a small percentage of the other travelling companies’ revenue as our application will also work as a big advertisement for them. Finally, the travel assistant app could also offer paid services including trip insurances as an extra feature and income source.

For the time being, our team consists of 4 members. All of us are undergraduate students at the Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering in the University of Aegean. We share the same passion for technology and our goal is to work on this idea and hopefully make it come true.
